A good RV packing checklist is the difference between an easy roll-in and a frustrating scramble the second you park — and a Mississippi Gulf Coast trip has its own specific must-haves, from a solid surge protector to plenty of bug spray. Whether you're headed to Lake LaCroix RV Resort in Bay St. Louis for a weekend or a whole snowbird season, this is the checklist we'd hand you before you leave the driveway. Work through it group by group, tick the boxes, and pull in with confidence.

Our sites are full-hookup with level concrete pads and 30/50-amp service (more on that on our RV sites page), so setup here is genuinely simple — but the right gear still makes everything smoother.

Hookups & setup

This is the non-negotiable box. Get these right and everything else falls into place.

  • Surge protector / EMS (30 & 50 amp)
  • Drinking-water hose (white, food-safe)
  • Inline water filter
  • Water pressure regulator
  • Sewer hose kit + clear elbow & supports
  • Leveling blocks & wheel chocks
  • 30-to-50 (and 50-to-30) amp adapters
  • Work gloves & a small toolkit

Tip: A surge protector is cheap insurance — never plug in without one. And even at a full-hookup park, a pressure regulator protects your rig's plumbing from surprises.

Kitchen & cooking

You'll do more cooking than you expect once you're settled by the lake. Pack for easy meals and a lakeside dinner or two.

  • Pots, pans & a good skillet
  • Plates, bowls, mugs & utensils
  • Sharp knife & cutting board
  • Coffee maker or French press
  • Reusable food containers & foil
  • Dish soap, sponge & towels
  • Trash bags
  • Cooler for beach & day trips

Outdoor & lakeside

This is where a Coast trip earns its keep. Your site comes with a picnic table; you bring the rest of the good life.

  • Folding camp chairs
  • Outdoor mat / rug
  • Sunscreen (reef-safe is kind)
  • Bug spray — you'll want it near the water
  • Kayak or paddleboard (or rent on site)
  • Fishing gear & tackle
  • String lights or a lantern
  • Marshmallows, chocolate & graham crackers

Tip: No room for a kayak? We keep kayaks and paddleboards available on site — check the amenities page. Same goes for the firepit; bring the s'mores fixings and we'll handle the bonfire.

"

The two things nobody regrets packing for the Coast: a good surge protector and twice as much bug spray as you think you need.

— hard-won RV wisdom

Weather & comfort

The Gulf Coast is warm and humid much of the year, with mild winters and the occasional pop-up shower. Pack for sun, a little rain, and cool snowbird evenings.

  • Lightweight, breathable clothing
  • Rain jacket or packable poncho
  • Light jacket / hoodie for cool nights
  • Hat & sunglasses
  • Portable fan for humid afternoons
  • Extra bedding / light blanket
  • Umbrella
  • Power strip & charging cables

Beach & water

Between our sandy freshwater beach and the Gulf shoreline a short drive away, you'll be in and out of the water all week.

  • Swimsuits & quick-dry towels
  • Water shoes / flip-flops
  • Beach bag & dry bag
  • Beach toys for the kids
  • Floats or pool noodles
  • Waterproof phone pouch
  • Extra sunscreen & after-sun lotion
  • Refillable water bottles

Pets

Every site here is pet-friendly and there's a fenced dog park on property, so bring the pup — just pack their essentials.

  • Food, bowls & a few days' extra
  • Leash & a spare
  • Waste bags (plenty)
  • Vaccination records
  • Bed or crate
  • Favorite toys
  • Flea/tick prevention
  • Towel for muddy paws after a swim

Documents & booking

The boring box that saves the day. Sort these before you pull out of the driveway.

  • Reservation confirmation (Campspot)
  • Driver's license & RV registration
  • Insurance & roadside-assistance info
  • Pet vaccination records
  • Cash & cards
  • Basic first-aid kit & medications
  • Phone charger & backup battery
  • Park phone number: (228) 220-1704

One last pass before you roll

Walk the rig, check the tires and lights, secure everything inside, and confirm your reservation. Then relax — you're two minutes off I-10 Exit 13 from a level, full-hookup site on the lake. If anything comes up on the road, our number's on the list above. See you at the water.

What do I need to pack for an RV trip to the Mississippi Gulf Coast?

For a Mississippi Gulf Coast RV trip to Lake LaCroix in Bay St. Louis, pack your hookup essentials (surge protector, drinking-water hose and filter, sewer kit, leveling blocks), kitchen and cooking gear, outdoor and lakeside items like chairs and bug spray, beach and water gear, pet supplies if you're bringing a dog, and your booking and ID documents. This article includes a full printable checklist grouped by category.

Do I need a surge protector at Lake LaCroix RV Resort?

Yes, a surge protector or electrical management system is strongly recommended anywhere you plug in, including Lake LaCroix RV Resort. Our sites have full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service, and a surge protector is inexpensive protection for your RV's electrical system. A water pressure regulator is also a smart addition.

Do I need to bring my own kayak or fishing gear?

You can, but you don't have to. Lake LaCroix RV Resort in Bay St. Louis keeps kayaks and paddleboards available on site, and the spring-fed lake and nearby bayous are great for paddling and inshore fishing. If you'd rather travel light, leave the boat at home and rent here.
